[Buch] M.C. Beaton: The Vicious Vet (Agatha Raisin #2)

Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet (Agatha Raisin, #2)Agatha Raisin and the Vicious Vet by M.C. Beaton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Agatha Raisin is hilarious! I liked this installment even better than the The Quiche of Death.

After her successful first murder investigation, Agatha tries to settle down in her quiet village in the Cotswolds. To her disappointment, James Lacey, her single neighbour seems to be avoiding her and an old business partner turns out a fraud when he tries to swindle her savings out of her. So naturally, when a new handsome vet opens a surgery in the village, Agatha senses her chance for adventure. The man seems more than willing but before real romance can blossom *g*, he dies tragically in an accident. Or was it?

Soon Agatha finds herself in the middle of another murder investigation alongside James Lacey who still cannot make up his mind as to whether "the woman" is pursuing him or not - splendid! The reader also gets to meet detective Bill Wong again, who strongly advises the two hobby sleuths to keep out of the investigation but in the end fails to hinder them from solving yet another crime.

I enjoy M.C. Beaton's style and humour. Agatha Raisin reads like a modern-day incarnation of Miss Marple whom I cherish. The charming country-life mysteries are just the right read when you're looking for something light and straightforward (and very British!). Good to know that it's a long series :)
